Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. remains one of the most inspirational figures in my life. I take time throughout the year to reflect not only on his words, but what he stood for. With Trump's inauguration on this very same day, the division in our country/world, Dr. King‘s principles and messages are needed all the more. I pray these words inspire you towards love in action...
As I think about MLK
I’m still inspired today
The sacrifices made
The pain endured
The resilience shown
And hate refrained
In the name of peace
That the world might see,
A hope beyond
The color of our skin
And that’s still the challenge to us all
Will we pause and look within?
Or cave to the noise of rhetoric
Or allow the weight of our disdain
To cloud what we see?
Are we willing to look intently
And then regardless of what remains
In that moment, then,
Choose kindness
Look to be a friend
To let love in…
Because only love can cover, a multitude of sins
Past, present and future
So we must each day, begin
And treat each person we meet with the utmost grace and walk in the accountability of compassion.
MLK reminds us a great nation is a compassionate nation; a great people, a compassionate people
So, let us strive not to simply be right
But open our hearts to all
And first, look for their light
If only we’d start with love
I believe we’d find progress
I believe we’d begin to see
The light within each of us
Outshines, whatever the divide
And that, my friend, yields peace
When we let love in… it wins, again and again.
MLK said
“Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.
